Applesauce and Sour Cream Waffles

Ingredients

  • 1¾ cup white whole-wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cups milk
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 eggs, separated

Preparation

Preheat the waffle iron.

Whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt together in a bowl.

Make a well in the center and drop in the milk, sour cream, applesauce, brown sugar and egg yolks. Mix together until well combined and set aside.

Beat the egg whites to form stiff peaks. Carefully fold the egg whites into the batter.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions for your waffle iron to cook waffles.

Serve with butter and warm maple syrup.
